December News

This one of my favorite times of the year with PK3. We have several projects that I know they will enjoy. We have been using our fine motor skills to make Christmas decorations for the classroom and home. The kids practiced there scissor skills cutting out stockings and decorating them with stickers. Some of you might have seen them, some of you might not and some of you might have seen a baggie with cut up red paper. This project was about the process not the product. Some of the kids enjoyed cutting so much they just kept on cutting and were just as proud of the pieces. They all did great with this project. This past week we brought out the glitter and had so much fun painting glue on paper light bulbs and then sprinkling glitter all over. The Gingerbread men they decorated as seen in the video below are so adorable. Your kids are very creative. Through these projects they are using their imagination, fine motor skills, and even patterning skills.
We have enjoyed reading Christmas books as well. One of our favorites is Merry Christmas Big Hungry Bear. At the end of the story is a present and the author does not reveal what is in the present. The kids became authors and illustrators and drew a picture of what they thought was in the Little Mouses' present from the Big Hungry Bear. Be sure to look at our class book when you visit our classroom.
Just a reminder, this Friday is Pageant day. This will be a NO SCHOOL DAY for PK3-K. The Kids need to be dressed in their dove costume and in the classroom at 9:30. The Pageant will take place in the gym. We will take the kids back to the classroom and you may pick them up there.
Thank you parents for all of the snacks and volunteering you have done. We appreciate you!

Last Week

We had a great week last week learning about the letter F. We loved reading the Froggy books. You might want to look for these at the book fair coming up soon. We also read several books with the word Five in the title such as "Five Little Monkeys" and " Five Ugly Monsters".

We glued feathers to the letter F. In Math we reviewed the shapes and made pictures using shapes. We also practiced our cutting skills by cutting out 3 yellow triangles.

Blessing of the Pets Day

Last week was a fun and busy week. We really enjoyed our fire truck visit. The Firemen gave us some safety tips. I imagine that you heard a few and probably had to schedule your own fire drill. They even got to help with the fire hose. It was pretty cool. I will be posting those pictures soon. Below is an album of pictures taken at the Blessing of the Pets and at recess on Friday. You can click on the photo album and view it full screen in Picasa as well as download the pictures.

We have really been enjoying the great weather and have worked especially hard on our large motor skills by riding bikes, jumping, running, and trying to go across the monkey bars. Our St. Michael's day parade was awesome. We were able to wave at the big kids and shout, "Happy St. Michael's day".

Nature Walk

We have enjoyed learning about our senses this week. We learned that God gave us our senses to protect us. We really enjoyed going on a nature walk and using our senses. We used our sense of seeing to locate a birds nest, trash on the ground; which of course we picked up, finding our way back to our classroom and a squirrel. We used our sense of hearing to hear the birds and the air conditioner. We touched the grass, which felt damp and the woodchips, which felt rough. We also felt the cool breeze on our faces. We smelled the hand sanitizer on our hands. We also saw an ant bed and learned that our sense of sight told us not to use our sense of touch on the ant bed! What a beautiful day of learning we had.

Today we had fun in Math working together to recognize the numbers and put them in order. This helped our one to one correspondence, number recognition and learning to work together to solve problems.

Welcome to PK3

We are so excited about this year. Your children are precious and we have enjoyed the first two days with them. It is our goal that this blog will enhance our communications this year. This will be a great resource for you to check daily for calendar's, volunteer schedules, forms, and updates about what is going on in our class. It is also a place that you can ask questions and post comments as well. We will take pictures regularly and post them for you to see what your child is doing in our classroom.

We are excited about working with your child and having an awesome school year!
